Carrie and Aaron brought me along to shoot their wedding on the tiny Caribbean island of Dominica (Dominique). It was just them and me - a very intimate and personal experience that culminated with a first dance under the Caribbean stars alongside the beautiful pool overlooking the ocean. Because it was so dark - there was no moon that evening, the image had to be made either using a big burst of light from me of by leaving the shutter open to let in the ambient light. I opted for the latter so that their subtle swaying would transform into a beautiful blur of joy, staying true to the integrity of the experience. Considering that the exposure needed to be at least 30 seconds and their first dance song was only two and a half minutes long, I could only get off one, maybe two frames. So I climbed into the pool, braced the camera on a railing and fired. this was that image. The song ended about 5 seconds after the frame was made. I was soaking wet.. shoes and all, but overjoyed I could preserve this moment for them.
